Alaska's Charter Schools
Published in Paperback by Publication Consultants (01 May, 1999)
Average review score:

Kudos for first research-based book about charter schoolsDr. Castanza's pioneering work provides the first comprehensive study from Alaska of the core issue in the current debate over the charter school system - the need to match freedom with accountability. His objective, factual examination reveals the current down-playing of accountability, traces the problem to the political tendencies which impact the school system, and digs deep down to the philosophical underpinnings of these tendencies.

Alaska's Copper River Delta
Published in Paperback by University of Washington Press (September, 1998)
Average review score:

Alaska's Copper River DeltaThis book is filled with ecological, geological and historical information. The work is superbly written to be enjoyed and understood by all readers. The artwork presented within the book is reason enough to own the book. Add to this the fact that you are supporting a great cause and probably gaining information you have never thought about before and you have a real winner. I am still amazed at the way Riki manages to get the names(sometimes in Latin)of all the flora and fauna included in the text while still maintaining the reader's interest.

Alaska's Evergreen Lodge on Beautiful Lake Louise
Published in Paperback by Trafford (July, 2001)
Average review score:

Far from the comforts and stresses of "civilization"In 1969, Barney Sabo decided to resign from his position as a secondary school principal and move to a remote part of Alaska with his wife and reside in a wilderness hunting/fishing lodge almost 200 miles outside of Anchorage. Alaska's Evergreen Lodge On Beautiful Lake Louise is the biographical story of how the move was made, the life style changes that ensued, the challenges and adventures experienced so deep into nature's wilderness and far from the comforts and stresses of "civilization". Alaska's Evergreen Lodge is highly recommended reading for anyone who has ever dreamed of chucking it all and going "back to nature" to enjoy a simpler life.

Photography capturing natures multitude of wondersThis book offers the serenity and solitude of the outdoors, seen by few and unexperienced by many. The inside passage is the untouched adventure that the photographer has magnificently demonstrated by the composition of the moment! Incredible, to the point of allowing the reader to share the feeling of the experience.

All the boring facts (color, size, etc.) are set off in a fact box for quick reference. Nice color pictures although they are a bit small.
